Knox Commercial & Insolvency Solicitors are a niche business law firm.  They are based in Colwyn Bay, North Wales but work throughout England & Wales and the Isle of Man.

 

Its founder Andrea Knox is dual qualified as both a Solicitor and a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner, although she chooses to act solely in her capacity as a Solicitor and does not take insolvency appointments.  Andrea achieved the top mark in the country in her JIEB Insolvency Exams in 2000.  Andrea worked as a Senior Associate at Allen & Overy in London and Hong Kong, and then as a Partner at Pinsent Masons in Birmingham before setting up her own firm in 2009. 

 

Their work is mainly referred from other professionals (lawyers, accountants and financial advisers) and they are proud of their ability to handle very technical/ complex transactions (often with an insolvency angle), as well as run of the mill commercial work, where they specialise in bespoke Shareholders’ Agreements incorporating detailed valuation provisions. They also lecture at 3 Universities and do professional training courses for Business Wales and various banks.

Andrea and fellow Solicitor Phil Roberts are excited about joining the UK200Group and meeting its member firms. They hope that their expert insolvency work in particular, will be of interest to other members. They are keen to work alongside other member firms to assist in advising clients in financial difficulty (for example where the directors/ owners need advice as to their statutory obligations, their ability to try and trade whilst technically insolvent and also, the protection of their personal assets). A surprising number of insolvencies lead to post-insolvency claims against the directors by the insolvency practitioner they appointed, many of which would be preventable with the correct pre-insolvency advice. Andrea and Phil are therefore especially keen to target insolvency work from member firms, and be used as a first point of call for practices with clients in difficulty. Their aim is to ensure that any eventual insolvency is as controlled as possible and that post-insolvency claims against the former Directors are kept to a minimum and their personal assets protected.

 

Andrea and Phil’s specialist insolvency work in particular, also offers opportunities for work referrals to member firms, and they are keen to ensure that they actively focus on referring such work to member firms and developing close working relationships with them.
