In her latest UK200Group blog post, Sharon Hammond of UK200Group member firm Roffe Swayne, discusses the benefits of a seasonal de-clutter.
It’s that time of year when everyone’s mind turns to spring cleaning and de-cluttering. The same principle should also apply to your online information too. It’s worth spending some time checking the copy on your company website, any business directories your business is listed on and don’t forget your profiles on the social media channels you use.
It is good practice to revisit these every now and again - just to make sure all of the information is up to date and freshen it up if needed.
Have you ever reread your company profile since you originally set up your account on Twitter, Linked In (or any of the others you may use)? Does it still clearly reflect your company and its vision/mission?
We are constantly reminded that we should be updating our websites regularly, and a good way to do this is blogging, but don’t forget it’s also worth checking your other pages too. You may discover some information is no longer relevant or is incorrect. Especially in our world of accountancy where the numbers are constantly changing, whether it’s audit thresholds or the latest HMRC benchmark percentages and suchlike. You may even realise that a person named on a page as a point of contact for your potential clients has changed, and you definitely want that to be correct!
Broken links on your website is another big no-no. It could be that you are linking to a page on another website which is no longer live or the URL has changed. But fear not, there’s a free tool online that will scour your website for you in a few seconds and let you know - www.brokenlinkcheck.com
Now you are armed with your virtual ‘feather duster’, give your online presence a spring clean.
